Which Capacity Do You Need?

Operating capacity is the most important thing to consider when deciding which air purifier is right for you. The right capacity depends on factors including the size of the room that needs clean air, the existing inside and outside air quality and the presence of allergies or respiratory conditions such as asthma among household members. We recommend always choosing an air purifier with at least 10% more capacity than the minimum required.

Room Size

Room size should be calculated in cubic meters by multiplying the length and width of the room and the ceiling height. In many cases, room sizes are given in square meters, multiplying the length and width of the room. In these calculations, Wells assumes a standard ceiling height of 2,40 meters.

Air Circulation Per Hour

The air indoors should ideally be ventilated at least 2 times per hour, so the purifier capacity should be at least double the room size. For people with allergies or asthma, it should be at least 5 times the room size. ⁶

Calculate Your Capacity Requirement

You can calculate the required capacity of your air purifier using the following steps:

  1. Measure the length and width of the room in metres. Multiply these together to calculate the area of the room.
  2. Measure the ceiling height in metres and multiply this by the area to calculate the room size (volume) in cubic meters.
  3. Multiply the room size by the number of required air changes per hour to calculate the minimum required capacity.
  4. We recommend adding at least 10% extra capacity.

Static Dust Filter

Static electricity has the capacity to attract dust, hair and dander. Especially in environments with high levels of dust or with pets, the Static Dust filter can prolong the efficiency of the Zero Clear Hepa filter.

Volatile Organic Compounds

VOC’s are chemical substances that can cause serious danger to health. In household environments, VOC’s typically come from cleaning products, air fresheners, disinfectants, pesticides, paint or solvents.

1) The capacity of all Wells Air Purifiers is tested by independent institutes applying the Modified US 42 CFR part 84 regulations for testing respiratory devices published by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health.

2) Wells Air Purifiers are classified as N100 respiratory protective devices. According to the Modified US 42 CFR part 84 test methods, Wells Air Purifiers filters over 99.991% of Sodium-Chloride particles from the circulated air.

3) The Zero Clear Hepa Filter of the Wells Air Purifiers is able to filter aerosols. Viruses like Influenza (H1N1) and Covid-19 (Sars-Cov-2) that are attached to these aerosols would be captured by the Zero Clear Hepa filter. However, only aerosols that are in the air that passes through the air purifier can be filtered. Air purifiers are useful to contribute to a healthier indoor environment, but cannot prevent contamination by influenza, Covid-19 or any other virus.
4) The indicated capacity is the maximum capacity of Wells Air Purifier AN 734.

5) The indicated capacity is the noise level in sleep mode of Wells Air Purifier AL106.

6) The indicated air changes per hour is based on the typical values used in heating and ventilation guidelines. For living rooms and bed rooms, it is recommended that the air is changed at least between 1 and 3 times per hour, depending on the number of people in the room. In environments with high humidity or higher levels of air pollution, as well as for people with respiratory complaints, a higher rate of air changes per hour is recommended.
